ABC stands for Aruba, Bonaire & Curaçao: A Southern Caribbean Retreat
The exotic Caribbean.
A region where we all imagine ourselves lying at a white-sand beach, with a cocktail in our hands, under a delightful palm tree. Perfect relax getaway! This description can be very likely with your last or next vacation to Dominican Republic, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Bahamas or Barbados. However, the Caribbean has a lot more places other than the usual ones that are totally worth it in my opinion. Since I`ve been to a few of them, I`m gonna describe my experience around the southern Caribbean, a unique place full of contrasting views, with green-blue sea on the right and white-like-snow salt production lakes. Indeed one of the most amazing views my eyes have experienced.
I had the opportunity to travel around 3 particular places in this area: Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire. Deep south! I found a lot of things they have in common for sure, but still they have their unique touch and their very own well-kept secret. From it`s people to their style, their tastes and native food, their relaxing way of taking life every day.
The mood all over is simply breath taking, with a slow pace either if you are traveling or living. But mainly: the views. So many nice contrasts, so different from many places we all have visited indeed in our travel-lifes!
To me, this world region is like finding gold. Beach is always the beach as we know it: warm, pleasant water, nice cozy sand, warm air. At least as I know it, since I come from a tropical country with this kind of beach everywhere, close from home. However, I have learned about not so tropical beaches, like Mediterranean Sea and this northern waters from the world. Always sort of cold water, not greeny mountain views around, only buildings, crowded people with beach umbrellas and food baskets…nothing wrong with it, simply another concept of beach. It all depends where you come from I guess! Since I`ve been living in Barcelona, I am amazed with the very different sights they got here and some other regions I have had the opportunity to visit around Europe, Canada & USA. I enjoy it as well, but I certainly miss frequently my warm beaches with playful waves. It`s each one`s style. What`s yours?
So, back to my Favorite ABC: Aruba, Curaçao & Bonaire, I have to remember some great sights I experienced while being there. These are very touristic places, with high transit of cruiseships. This brings a very interesting contrasts sight among the great travelers of seas and the local juicy spots in each town. Pretty impressive views for such small places, like Aruba:
I can also name the amazing salt production lakes in Bonaire, where you can appreciate a white salt carpet just like snow…under the hottest sun in the middle of a green beautiful sea, as well as flamencos highlighting from the salty white water.
I will never forget this places, with it`s colorful european style buildings, interesting and unique in the middle of caribbean waters for sure! Not a contrast you’ll find every day. So alive, so happy places, so delicious in every aspect.
So, for a great vacation on a different kind of destination, get delighted with this southern Caribbean recommendations. I particularly had a great unforgettable time back there and will always look to go back for longer.
Welcome to paradise!

Thank you for another excellent post. Keep up the good work.
To be honest, the Caribbean has never drawn me in. However, the salt flats and flamingos may have just changed my mind. Stunning!
Beautiful photo’s! I really want to head to the Caribbean some time in the near future, this is all the more motivation! Thanks for sharing!
I’ve never been to the Caribbean…when I think just a lot of cruise ships come to mind, but it still looks stunning!
Wow, Mariana. Although I live on the East Coast of the U.S., I never explore the Caribbean. You’ve inspired me to change that.
