Laid Back Larnaka at it’s Best
There comes a point when you really need to start recharging the batteries. Perhaps you have been pushing yourself to the limit at work, or maybe on your round the world trip you have grow a bit weary of bustling cities and want a bit of peace and quiet for a few weeks or days. If it is relaxation you are after, there are few places in Europe that offer a more relaxing experience than the Cypriot city of Larnaka. If you find yourself on Cyprus holidays in this city, you will no doubt leave totally refreshed and ready to tackle what life has to through at you again!
A Pretty Face
Often it is your first impressions of a country which sticks longest in your mind. If your first view is of a grey, mundane view you will not have high hopes for the rest of your trip. One of the best moves Cyprus has ever done was built its international airport in Larnaka. This allows visitors to see the best of this laid back city immediately – whether it be the huge salt lake which dominates views – along with its resident flamingos – or the outstandingly beautiful marina, complete with yachts, boats and cafes full of people taking in the sun and letting life pass them by.
Architecture Galore
If you want to get away from the throbbing markets and get some quiet time to yourself whilst also taking in the sights, head to one of the many beautiful buildings and churches that litter the city and its surrounding areas – Agios Lazaros Church is a particular favourite with visitors. Kition is one of the most famous and important ancient kingdoms in the region and thanks to large parts of it being rebuilt in 1200BC there are still some ruins standing today. If you like ancient history and architecture, Larnaka will be like a dream to you.
Picturesque Surroundings
One of the main attractions about Larnaka is that you can use the city as a base and explore the immediate surroundings – and there is plenty of things to see and do, that’s for sure. However it wouldn’t be a trip to Cyprus without seeing some of the picturesque villages which are dotted throughout the landscapes. Lefkara is one such village, found around 40km from Larnaka, and is home to some stunning churches and architecture. It is even said that Leonard Da Vinci once visited.
Larnaka really can offer the average tourist or round the world traveller the best of what Cyprus. If you are after a relaxing, cultural and fascinating cheap all inclusive holiday or just a relaxing few days, there are not many better options than Larnaka!
